New girl at an American High school, Sarah (Robin Tunney) moves from San Francisco to Los Angeles with her father and step mother. Failing to immediately settle in and be accepted by the various cliques, she meets up with three other girls whom are also regarded as "misfits" and referred to as the "bitches of Eastwick" by their peers and who all share an interest in witchcraft and the occult. Discovering that together all four of them have special powers and can control magic they form a coven and set about settling a few old scores.
A surprisingly impressive and down to earth depiction of "Earth magick" and Wicca. Quite unlike the usual Hollywood fare of magic and witchcraft. Some of the effects look a little ropey by today's standards but an original and interesting story related by some strong acting performances by a virtually unheard of cast that hold the film together. Some innovative direction frames an almost advisory tale concerning the dabbling with powers you don't understand. A dark but fun and entertaining film starring four curvacious babes including the terribly gothic Fairuza Balk.

This is the Collectors Edition of the disc which has a few interesting extras but is a good presentation of an underestated film. | |
