WELCOME! Welcome to our fourth newsletter. We had various requests for information following our last Newsletter and hopefully we've managed to provide the information in this edition. Email us at
newsletter@advsys.co.im Past Issues: August 2001, April 2001, March 2001,
2001 marks our 10th anniversary This year sees our 10th anniversary. When we later became an ISP we were only the 28th in the whole of Europe. During this time we have become seen as one of the premier business and home user ISPs on the Island. We'd like to take this opportunity to thank all of our customers for their continued support. Former Communications Commission Director joins Domicilium We are delighted to advise our customers that Bryan Waddington has, following his retirement from the Commission, joined our board as a non-executive director. Mr Waddington, a chartered engineer and a Fellow of the Institution of Electrical Engineers retired after more than 10 years at the Commission, which is responsible for the licensing and regulating of all telecommunications and broadcasting in the Isle of Man. Jon Allen, our Managing Director said "Bryan has a wealth of experience in IOM communications regulations, in management, and he has a detailed technical understanding of wireless communications. In all these areas Bryan's input will prove invaluable to Domicilium." Please see our Press Release for more information. http://www.advsys.co.uk/bryan.html Boost for Island businesses from online gambling Jon Allen our Managing Director was recently in the IOM Examiner speaking about how the recent issue of online gaming licences will benefit businesses and professions on the Island. With such major names as Littlewoods, MGM Mirage and SunOnline having been awarded licences he said "A number of Island businesses, including banks. law firms and Manx Telecom, will benefit. The online gaming companies will be sourcing equipment locally and paying VAT on it, there is a requirement to mail out pin numbers so the Post Office is going to be sending out millions of letters; hotels will be needed for meetings..." October marks the third anniversary of betinternet.com, an international tax-free internet betting service, having their headquarters in Viking House, Douglas. We have been pleased to be closely associated with them and wish them continued success. Vincent Caldwell, Chairman of Betinternet speaking earlier this year said "Our Technology has proved to be exceptionally reliable with 99.97% availability of betinternet.com's services to our customers since March 2000. Betinternet.com will continue to benefit from its location in the Isle of Man, which has one of the most advanced telecommunications infrastructures anywhere in the world" Special deal for Accommodation Providers We recently attended the launch of the Isle of Man Governments' Tourism E-enablement Scheme where they introduced their scheme for accommodation providers here on the Island who can claim a maximum grant of £500 toward the cost of a internet PC or website design. Due to the resultant need for internet access and/or webspace we have introduced a "Special Package" which puts together all the different services required to connect to the internet and therefore receive/send email and if required host a website giving the ability for clients to view or even reserve the hotel/guest house facilities online. This special package is just £25 plus VAT per month which also includes the registration of a .org.im domain name and connected email addresses. Our internet access is also available with fixed telecom charge for peace of mind. TOP Web-based encrypted email
We now can provide the ability with our product IPP Secure to send and receive email with the added benefit of 128-bit PGP encryption. All emails sent to or from an IPP address can be encrypted to avoid unauthorised access.
What is encryption? and how does it work?
Encryption is the process of encoding a message into a format that cannot be read by anyone intercepting the email. In order to un-encode the message the recipient must have a way to interpret the code. Coding and un-encoding use a pair of keys, called the public and private keys (formulae which dictate the way the code works). Each individual or organisation has a pair of keys. The recipient’s public key is used to encode a message to a recipient and only the private key of the recipient can un-encode it. Public keys are made available to anyone who you might or who you do correspond with. A private key is given to no-one and is held securely on the owners pc. With IPP secure all encryption and un-encryption is undertaken using readily available PGP software.
No software needed.
If you don't wish to install the PGP software on your PC or network you can use our web-based access which can also be co-branded to a corporate image.
iPass for PDAs
We are now able to provide users of PDAs the ability to connect to our iPass remote access solution. iPass provides access through the world’s largest Internet access network - more than 8,000 access points throughout 150 countries - and the service is reliable, secure and provides significant cost-savings compared to other solutions. More information including the software can be found on our website at
Don't forget Island Clubs/Societies can get free domain names thanks to Bank of Bermuda sponsorship
If you are involved with a sports clubs or society you should really take a look at ClubMail.
ClubMail allows club officials whether it is team captains or the secretary to email all members without any need to change any current email addresses. Everyone has access to email these days, at work if not at home. ClubMail automatically forwards all email from a club address which ClubMail provides e.g. jon@rushenunited.org.im to any address you currently use. In conjunction with Bank of Bermuda we are able to provide this amazingly useful capability FREE. For more information see our website. http://www.advsys.co.im
