Caudron G4. French twin engined observation/bomber 1915
Designed
as a twin seater, twin engined recomnnaisance bomber, the G4 was powered by
two 80hp rotary Le Rhone engines. The observer was armed with a flexibly mounted
machine gun, the .303 inch Lewis gun being a favourite. It was also capable
of carrying a 220kg bombload. The G4, whilst popular with many of its crews,
proved to be lacking in the rapidly developing air race of the 14-18 war.
The wing warping method of control was inadequate when compared to aileron
equiped machines and by the end of 1916 the G4 was little used.
