To
this day the Staaken bombers remain some of the largest wooden aircraft ever
made. Whilst technically advanced (one version even experimented with high altitude
supercharging) they ultimately proved less than successful in the eyes of the
German staff, primarily due to lack of power for such a large aircraft and bomb
load. In addition to the eight man crew, a ground staff of 42 were needed just
to get the plane out of the hangar.
